Paul Pierce wants Draymond Green to announce his retirement

Draymond Green said he will play "two, three more years." Thanks to his viral trash talk, he can't announce his specific retirement year in advance.

Speaking with Paul Pierce on his podcast, Green explained that he's the victim of his own virality. When Pierce was playing his final season as a member of the LA Clippers in 2016, TNT's microphones caught Green trash-talking Pierce about how no one cared that he was retiring.

"Chasing that farewell tour, they don't love you like that," Green shouted at Pierce. He added, "You thought you was Kobe?"

Pierce, who claimed he couldn't hear Green's trash talk from his seat, needled Green about that moment. "In your last year, are you going to announce that it's your last year?" Pierce asked.

"Nah. Nah." Green responded, "Someone's gonna do me like I said to you!"

Pierce wants it to be him.

"I'm coming to them games, and I'mma yell the same thing you yelled to me!" Pierce declared. "Please announce your last year!"

That's the problem with trash-talking when a player is on top, especially in the age of the internet. When the player inevitably starts to slip, everyone has the receipts of what they said before.

Green acknowledged as much. He declared that the only way he'd announce his last season was if it was also the last season of longtime teammate Steph Curry.

"That's the only chance it gets announced," Green said. "Because then I could ride Steph's coattails on his farewell tour and act like it's mine."
